Derivatization procedures and their analytical performances for HPLC determination in bioanalysis

Victor David et al.

Summary: Derivatization, a chemical structure modification, is often used in bioanalysis to enhance detectability or improve chromatographic performance. Different derivatization procedures are discussed, including in situ or extraction-based methods, as well as chiral, isotope-labeling, hydrophobicity-tailored, and post-column derivatizations. Examples of derivatization reagents and bioanalytical applications are also included in the review.

After enjoying curry: urine metabolism analysis of curcuminoids by microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography with laser-induced native fluorescence detection

Kun Zang et al.

Summary: A microemulsion electrokinetic chromatographic method was developed for the separation and detection of curcuminoids under acidic conditions using laser induced native fluorescence. By optimizing the microemulsion composition and investigating buffer pH and organic modifiers, four curcuminoids could be well separated with low detection limits. The method was successfully applied to monitor curcuminoids and related metabolites in human urine, showing potential for evaluating the pharmacological activity of curcuminoids.
