Revisiting Vibrational Spectroscopy to Tackle the Chemistry of Zr6O8 Metal-Organic Framework Nodes

Ignacio Romero-Muniz et al.

Summary: In this study, we identified the presence of node vacancies within MOF-808 that can be chemically modified using infrared spectroscopy experiments and first-principles calculations. We resolved the atomic structure of single metal sites incorporated into catechol groups postsynthetically using advanced synchrotron characterization tools. Furthermore, we demonstrated the catalytic activity of these modified MOF-808 materials for 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions.

Modulation of the Thermochemical Stability and Adsorptive Properties of MOF-808 by the Selection of Non-structural Ligands

Erlend Aunan et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are attractive materials for various fields due to their porous and crystalline nature, but their thermal stability is crucial for industrial applications. This article introduces a method to thermally stabilize MOF-808 by incorporating benzoate moieties through post-synthetic functionalization, and discusses how this affects the physicochemical properties of the MOFs. The materials described provide new options for the design of stable catalysts and adsorbents for future technologies.

Efficient Removal of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances from Water with Zirconium-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks

Rui Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the zirconium-based metal-organic framework NU-1000 shows exceptional adsorption capacities and ultrafast adsorption kinetics for PFASs, with equilibrium times of less than 1 minute. NU-1000 also exhibits excellent regeneration and reusability characteristics, with nearly quantitative removal and recovery rates after five consecutive adsorption and desorption cycles of PFAS. Adsorption testing using PFAS-contaminated groundwater samples shows impressive PFAS removal rates of 75-98% within 10 minutes, regardless of the presence of co-contaminants.
