Electrocatalytic Perchlorate Reduction Using an Oxorhenium Complex Supported on a Ti4O7 Reactive Electrochemical Membrane

Soroush Almassi et al.

Summary: An organometallic rhenium catalyst was deposited on a Ti4O7 reactive electrochemical membrane (Re/REM) for the electrocatalytic reduction of aqueous ClO4- to Cl-. The results showed that the Re/REM exhibited good reduction performance and high chloride selectivity. This study is of great significance for the treatment of ClO4- in water.

Replacement of Molybdenum by Tungsten in a Biomimetic Complex Leads to an Increase in Oxygen Atom Transfer Catalytic Activity

Miljan Z. Corovic et al.

Summary: By replacing molybdenum with tungsten, the derived enzyme from the Rhodobacteraceae family catalyzes DMSO reduction faster. Tungsten complexes can undergo oxygen atom transfer reactions with excess PMe3, forming tungsten(IV) oxido species. This study sheds light on the mechanism of tungsten in reduction reactions.

Inspired by Nature-Functional Analogues of Molybdenum and Tungsten-Dependent Oxidoreductases

Sebastian Paetsch et al.

Summary: Over the past decade, scientists have been inspired by natural molybdenum and tungsten-dependent oxidoreductases to create functional analogues. These studies have not only enhanced our understanding of the biological template but also opened up possibilities for atypical selectivity and activity, such as catalytic hydrogen evolution. This review aims to showcase the progress made in the research and utilization of molybdenum and tungsten functional model compounds over the last ten years, highlighting their ability to facilitate enzyme reactions and explore new catalytic capabilities.

Molybdenum-Catalyzed Perchlorate Reduction: Robustness, Challenges, and Solutions

Changxu Ren et al.

Summary: We have developed a highly active ligand-enabled Mo-Pd/C catalyst for the reduction of aqueous perchlorate (ClO4-) using hydrogen gas. This catalyst exhibits satisfactory properties for the treatment of ClO4- in waste brines, even in the presence of concentrated salts and humic acid. It shows promise as a competitive alternative to microbial reactors for ClO4- reduction.

Nature-Inspired Homogeneous Catalytic Perchlorate Reduction Using Molybdenum Complexes

Madeleine A. Ehweiner et al.

Summary: Two molybdenum(VI) complexes act as catalysts for the reduction of (per)chlorate, with the pyrimidine-2-thiolate system showing higher efficiency. The reduction of (per)chlorate to chloride is facilitated by the catalysts, with the initial oxygen atom transfer from [MoO2L2] to PPh3 being the rate-determining step.
