Bioactive Triterpenes of Protium heptaphyllum Gum Resin Extract Display Cholesterol-Lowering Potential

Giuseppe Mannino et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the potential of Protium heptaphyllum gum resin extract as an alternative to combat hypercholesterolemia, highlighting its role as a sustainable multitarget natural extract for the nutraceutical industry. Through chemical characterization, human hepatocyte studies, and molecular docking, it was found that PHE can reduce cholesterol production and regulate the expression of proteins involved in cholesterol metabolism.

Potential natural inhibitors of xanthine oxidase and HMG-CoA reductase in cholesterol regulation: in silico analysis

Rishab Marahatha et al.

Summary: High cholesterol levels pose a serious threat to heart diseases and stroke worldwide. In this study, computational analysis was conducted on secondary metabolites that have shown inhibitory activity against XO and HMGR in wet lab experiments. The results suggest that some of these metabolites have potential as alternative treatments for hypercholesterolemia, with good pharmacokinetic properties and comparable efficacy to commercially available inhibitors.
