Dramatic destruction of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections with a simple combination of amoxicillin and light-activated methylene blue

Yanfang Feng et al.

Summary: The combination therapy of amoxicillin and light-activated methylene blue was found to have a synergistic effect against MRSA, with up to 8 logs reduction in MRSA infections. It does not lead to significant bacterial resistance and can effectively treat S. aureus infections.

The AAHKS Best Podium Presentation Research Award: Comparing the Efficacy of Irrigation Solutions on Staphylococcal Biofilm Formed on Arthroplasty Surfaces

Ajay Premkumar et al.

Summary: The study found that povidone-iodine 10% and a 1:1 solution of povidone-iodine 10% and 4% hydrogen peroxide were the only effective solutions against biofilm across all three surfaces and time points. Saline, vancomycin, and polymyxin-bacitracin were ineffective compared to other solutions for dispersing MSSA biofilm. Furthermore, the efficacy of commercial antibacterial solutions varied significantly, with a global decrease in efficacy as biofilm maturity increased.
