Probiotic potential of Weissella paramesenteroides MYPS5.1 isolated from customary dairy products and its therapeutic application

Monika Yadav et al.

Summary: This study focused on isolating potential probiotic strains from dairy products. Among the isolated strains, strain MYPS5.1 of Weissella paramesenteroides was identified as the best candidate with potential therapeutic properties. This strain exhibited antibiotic resistance and produced a high concentration of exopolysaccharide. It also showed interaction with cyclin-dependent kinase, which is thought to play a role in cancer pathogenesis.

Isolation and Identification of Lactococcus lactis and Weissella cibaria Strains from Fermented Beetroot and an Investigation of Their Properties as Potential Starter Cultures and Probiotics

Ewelina Maslak et al.

Summary: This study isolated two strains of lactic acid bacteria from a pickled beetroot sample, which showed potential to be considered as probiotics in the future. The strains were tested for their growth conditions, proteolytic properties, lipid profile, ability to synthesize beneficial metabolites, and inhibition of pathogenic strains. The results showed that these strains have the desired properties for use as starter cultures in functional food production.

Integrated Phenotypic-Genotypic Analysis of Candidate ProbioticWeissella Cibaria Strains Isolated from Dairy Cows in Kuwait

Vania Patrone et al.

Summary: Probiotics, especially the Weissella genus, show potential for controlling intestinal infections in livestock. Two Weissella cibaria strains isolated from cows in Kuwait exhibited strong growth under acidic conditions and bile salts, along with adhesion properties to host cells and inhibitory effects on E. coli and S. enterica due to their low pH supernatants. Genetic analysis revealed genes related to metabolism and stress responses, indicating adaptation to the gastrointestinal environment. Strain SP19 showed promising probiotic properties and genetic markers, making it a candidate for further investigation in livestock use.

Autochthonous probiotics Lactococcus lactis and Weissella confusa in the diet of fingerlings great sturgeon, Huso huso: effects on growth performance, feed efficiency, haematological parameters, immune status and intestinal morphology

Hooshang Yeganeh Rastekenari et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of two autochthonous probiotics on Huso huso fingerlings, showing positive impacts on growth performance, immune status, and intestinal morphology. While blood parameters showed no significant differences between groups, some immunological indices and intestinal villi height were influenced by probiotic levels. The optimal range of autochthonous probiotics for fingerlings was determined to be 2.5-2.61 x 10^7 CFU/g based on regression analysis.

Preferential growth stimulation of probiotic bacteria by galactan exopolysaccharide from Weissella confusa KR780676

Palanisamy Bruntha Devi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the promising prebiotic properties of galactan exopolysaccharide, showing resistance to digestive enzymes, promoting growth of probiotic bacteria, and significantly altering microbial populations and SCFAs production in fecal fermentation. This highlights its potential as an effective prebiotic for modulating gut microbiome homeostasis.

In Vitro Evaluation of the Effect of Oral Probiotic Weissella cibaria on the Formation of Multi-Species Oral Biofilms on Dental Implant Surfaces

Mi-Sun Kang et al.

Summary: Oral probiotics, specifically W. cibaria CMU and CMS1, were found to inhibit the formation of multi-species biofilms on titanium implant surfaces. This suggests that these probiotics could be a promising approach for preventing peri-implant mucositis.

Characterization of Weissella viridescens UCO-SMC3 as a Potential Probiotic for the Skin: Its Beneficial Role in the Pathogenesis of Acne Vulgaris

Marcela Espinoza-Monje et al.

Summary: The study aimed to characterize the antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties of W. viridescens UCO-SMC3 and demonstrate its beneficial effect in treating acne vulgaris. Both in vitro and in vivo studies showed that the UCO-SMC3 strain inhibited the growth of C. acnes and beneficially modulated the immune response against the skin pathogen, reducing pathogen replication and inflammatory response. Oral and topical administration of UCO-SMC3 strain showed promising results in reducing acne lesions.
