Adaptive significance of flowering time variation across natural seasonal environments in Arabidopsis thaliana

Alexandre Fournier-Level et al.

Summary: This study investigated the natural selection and genetic architecture of flowering time in Arabidopsis through field experiments in Europe. It found associations between loci related to flowering time and climate adaptation. The results showed selection for early flowering and increased stability, but little detection of plasticity. Genome-wide association studies identified significant associations with flowering traits and supported polygenic inheritance. The association of late flowering genotypes and alleles with climate presented evidence of past adaptation. However, current selection favored rapid flowering in agricultural settings.

New climatic approaches to the analysis of the middle Paleolithic sequences: Combined taxonomic and isotopic charcoal analyses on a Neanderthal settlement, Les Canalettes (Aveyron, France)

Benjamin Audiard et al.

Summary: Studies have identified the potential for delta C-13 isotope signal of charcoal to be used as a new paleoclimatic/paleoenvironmental proxy. In this specific study, isotopic analyses on ancient Pinus charcoal from the Quaternary period revealed an increase in humidity over time, with a warming episode at the top of the sequence, providing reliable paleoclimatic information.
