Quality-control tests for OC4, OC5 and NIR-red satellite chlorophyll-a algorithms applied to coastal waters

H. Lavigne et al.

Summary: This study proposed a quality control test based on MERIS water leaving reflectance bands to determine the applicability of three popular algorithms for estimating chlorophyll-a concentration. Results showed that by removing data which do not pass the quality control test, the performance of the algorithms was significantly improved.

Integrating mooring and ship-based data for improved validation of OLCI chlorophyll-a products in the Baltic Sea

Susanne Kratzer et al.

Summary: The deployment of a Water Quality Monitor in the NW Baltic Sea was assessed for its potential in improving satellite validation in coastal waters. Matching mooring data with OLCI data revealed that a locally-adapted version of C2RCC is more suitable for the area of investigation. Further work is needed to improve System Vicarious Calibration for waters with high CDOM absorption like the Baltic Sea.
