Physical and mechanical properties of flamboyant (Delonix Regia) pod filled polyester composites

E. O. Achukwu et al.

Summary: This research aims to develop lightweight polymeric composite materials using flamboyant pod as a matrix and investigate their properties and potential applications. The results show that a loading of 10 wt% produces the best mechanical properties, making it suitable for non-load bearing and indoor applications in the automotive and building industries.

INFLUENCE OF IPNS (VINYLESTER / EPOXY / POLYURETHANE) ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF GLASS / CARBON HYBRID COMPOSITES

Karjala Santhosh Priya et al.

Summary: The main objective of this study is to compare the physical strengths of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) with different variants of fibers. The study found that carbon fiber reinforcement showed extraordinary performance compared to E-glass fiber reinforcement in all IPN combinations, and hybrid (combination of E-glass and carbon) laminates exhibited excellent characteristics over E-glass fiber reinforcement, regardless of the IPN matrix material.

Long term accelerated influence on thermo-mechanical properties of glass/carbon fiber reinforced interpenetrating polymer network hybrid composites

Karjala Santhosh Priya et al.

Summary: The prime importance of this work is to compare the influence of hygrothermal analysis on the physical properties of different variants of interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) blend reinforced with E-Glass/Carbon and combination of both (hybrid) fibers. The study found that the combination of VER/PU possesses high moisture absorption resistance, and the EVG fiber IPN laminate exhibits notable thermal stability and wettability. However, all specimens experienced a loss of physical strengths in the hygrothermal environment.

Interfacial modification between glass fiber and polypropylene using a novel waterborne amphiphilic sizing agent

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the use of a polyacrylate-based sizing agent for interfacial modification in glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene composites. The sizing agent reduces the surface energy of the glass fiber, improving the compatibility with polypropylene. The interfacial shear strength of the GF-PP composites is increased, and the mechanical properties of the sized GF/PP composites are improved.

Characterization of recycled and virgin polyethylene terephthalate composites reinforced with modified kenaf fibers for automotive application

Macaulay M. Owen et al.

Summary: This research successfully produced engineering plastics composite for automotive applications using waste RPET bottles as the matrix and compounded with chemically modified kenaf fibers. The treated composites showed higher mechanical properties and thermal stability compared to the untreated composites. The RPET composite exhibited similar thermal properties as virgin PET and can be considered as a substitute in composite formulation.

Incorporation of Recycled Polypropylene and Fly Ash in Polypropylene-Based Composites for Automotive Applications

Mojtaba Ajorloo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the feasibility of utilizing waste materials such as recycled Polypropylene (PP) and fly ash in auto parts formulation. It was found that using recycled PP in composites affects mechanical properties but can lead to improvements in tensile strength due to better filler dispersion. The hybrid system of recycled PP and fly ash offers advantages in cost reduction and sustainable production.
