Summary: Motivated by Minnaert resonance in acoustics, this paper investigates low-frequency resonance of acoustic bubbles embedded in soft elastic materials. By balancing the acoustic and elastic parameters as well as the bubble geometry, the potential of using bubbly elastic media to achieve negative elastic materials is demonstrated.

Modal approximation for time-domain elastic scattering from metamaterial quasiparticles

Summary: This paper aims to quantitatively understand the elastic wave scattering caused by negative metamaterial structures under wide-band signals in the time domain. The modal expansion and Fourier transform are utilized to study the time-dependent properties of the scattering by metamaterial quasiparticles in elastodynamics. The expansion is validated in both static and perturbative regimes, and polariton resonances are discussed as simple poles for the elastostatic system. The low-frequency part of the scattered field in the time domain can be well approximated using the resonant modal expansion with sharp error estimates.
