Summary: This study successfully designs and synthesizes a bifunctional electrocatalyst CoFeNi-CNTs with high performance, low-cost, and good stability by introducing Ni ions and optimizing the synthesis process. The optimized catalysts have abundant M-N-C structures and CoFeNi nanoparticles as active sites, exhibiting outstanding electrocatalytic activity and durability. The rechargeable Zn-air battery based on this catalyst outperforms Pt/C-RuO2 based devices in peak power density, specific capacity, and cycling stability. Additionally, the all-solid-state Zn-air battery also shows excellent performance and stability.

Controllable construction of FeCo nanoparticles embedded 3D porous N-doped carbon nanonetworks as high efficiency bifunctional for Zn-air batteries

Among them, FeCo-NPCNs exhibit the highest electrocatalytic activity. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal the boosted intrinsic activity of the catalyst.

Engineering of Co3O4@Ni2P heterostructure as trifunctional electrocatalysts for rechargeable zinc-air battery and self-powered overall water splitting

Summary: In this study, highly efficient, robust, and nonprecious electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) were developed. The heterostructural Co3O4@Ni2P arrays exhibited numerous reaction sites, unique interfacial electronic structure, and fast charge transfer kinetics. The electrocatalysts showed ultralow overpotentials for OER and HER, and demonstrated excellent performance in rechargeable Zn-air batteries and overall water splitting. This work provides insights into the design of efficient trifunctional electrocatalysts and the understanding of the interfacial electronic structures and catalytic properties.
