Morphology controlled hierarchical NiS/carbon hexahedrons derived from nitrilotriacetic acid-assembly strategy for high-performance hybrid supercapacitors

Dan Wu et al.

Summary: Effective adjustment of structure and morphology is a feasible strategy to improve the energy storage performance of supercapacitor electrode materials. In this study, hierarchical NiS/carbon hexahedrons with controlled morphology were synthesized via nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA)-assisted hydrothermal strategy. These hexahedrons exhibited superior energy storage performance and remarkable cycle stability, demonstrating their potential for high-performance energy storage devices.

Effects of fiber volume fraction on the densification and mechanical properties of unidirectional SiCf/SiC-matrix composites

Kazuya Shimoda et al.

Summary: Unidirectional SiCf/SiC-matrix composites with a pyrocarbon interface were prepared by hot-pressing SiC nano powder at high temperature (1900 degrees C) and pressure (20 MPa). The volume fraction of SiC reinforcing fiber significantly affected densification and mechanical properties, with improvements in mechanical properties observed with an increase in fiber volume fraction up to a certain level, beyond which the ultimate strength degraded due to open porosity and fiber damage.

Effect of PyC interface phase on the cyclic ablation resistance and flexural properties of two-dimensional C-f/HfC composites

Tao Feng et al.

Summary: Composites based on hafnium carbide reinforced with continuous naked carbon fiber, with and without PyC interface treatment, were prepared at low temperature. Results showed that samples with PyC interface had better cyclic ablation resistance and lower decrease in bending strength, attributed to the protective and weakening effects of PyC interface on fiber and fiber/matrix interface.

Monotonic tension behavior of 2D woven oxide/oxide ceramic matrix composites at ultra-high temperature

Z. X. Wen et al.

Summary: Research on the mechanical behavior and failure analysis of oxide/oxide CMC at ultra-high temperatures can expand its application range. The study showed that the mechanical properties of the oxide/oxide CMC are sensitive to temperatures and tensile rates. The ultimate tensile strength decreases significantly at low tensile rate and for temperatures higher than 1100 degrees C. The mechanical properties are determined by different factors under different temperature and stress conditions.

Summary: The high-temperature tension-compression fatigue behavior of polymer matrix composites with 2D and 3D fiber architectures was examined in this study. The 3D composite showed a higher fatigue limit while the 2D laminated composite displayed slightly better fatigue performance at higher stress levels. Examination of tested specimens revealed extensive delamination in the 2D composite, while the 3D composite showed enhanced delamination resistance.
