Enhanced magnetocaloric performances and tunable martensitic transformation in Ni35Co15Mn35-xFexTi15 all-d-metal Heusler alloys by chemical and physical pressures

Yong Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the crystal structure, phases, and magnetocaloric performance of Ni35Co15Mn35-xFexTi15 alloys under chemical and hydrostatic pressures. The results show that increasing Fe content can lower the martensitic transformation temperature, and increasing hydrostatic pressure can enhance the magnetocaloric performance. Additionally, applying pressure can significantly improve the magnetocaloric performance.

Large reversible magnetocaloric effect and magnetoresistance by improving crystallographic compatibility condition in Ni(Co)-Mn-Ti all-d-metal Heusler alloys

Saheli Samanta et al.

Summary: In this study, reversible magnetocaloric effect and magnetoresistance were achieved in all-d-metal Heusler alloys by doping with Co. The optimized composition with low thermal hysteresis and narrow transformation interval showed a large reversible magnetic entropy change and magnetoresistance. The origin of small hysteresis was also investigated, providing a pathway to design new cyclically stable multifunctional materials.

Hai-Le Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact and correlated mechanism of B alloying on Ni-Mn-based multiferroic alloys were systematically studied through first-principles calculations. The results showed that replacing Ga with B can effectively improve the alloy's strength and reduce ductility, while B staying at the octahedral interstice leads to increased strength but significantly reduced ductility.

Increased magnetocaloric response of FeMnNiGeSi high-entropy alloys

Jia Yan Law et al.

Summary: The search for high-entropy alloys (HEAs) with high magnetocaloric performance has led to the discovery of FeMnNiGeSi HEAs with magnetostructural first-order phase transition, achieving the largest reported isothermal entropy change for magnetocaloric HEAs. The study demonstrates comparable performance to conventional high-performance magnetocaloric materials, bridging the gap between HEAs and conventional systems for the first time, opening up a new path for functional materials with optimal mechanical properties.

Deconvolution of overlapping first and second order phase transitions in a NiMnIn Heusler alloy using the scaling laws of the magnetocaloric effect

Alvaro Diaz-Garca et al.

Summary: For Heusler alloys exhibiting magneto-structural transformation, the first-order phase transition accompanied by temperature dependence of magnetization of different structures can be tuned by altering composition to be close to Curie transitions. This close proximity may result in tight overlap between two types of magnetocaloric effects, usually of different signs. Deconvolution of the magnetocaloric response allows prediction of the pure first-order phase transition, with the experimental decrease attributed to competing contributions of overlapping second-order phase transitions.

Characterization of thermal hysteresis in magnetocaloric NiMnIn Heusler alloys by Temperature First Order Reversal Curves (TFORC)

A. Diaz-Garcia et al.

Summary: The TFORC technique was used to study the thermal hysteresis of two magnetocaloric Heusler alloys with similar compositions but different martensitic transition temperatures, leading to varying TFORC distributions. The asymmetry of the martensitic transformation upon cooling and heating has significant effects on the TFORC distributions. Experimental results were compared to a transformation model to separate contributions from magneto-structural and thermomagnetic behaviors, revealing the origins of different distribution features.
