Jingyu Pang et al.

Summary: Radiation response of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) with face-centered cubic (FCC) and B2 phases was studied at the atomic scale. FCC phase showed superior swelling tolerance due to its lower bubble volume ratio compared to the B2 phase. The composition complexity and crystal structure of FCC phase contribute to better radiation performance.

B2-strengthened Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Ni high entropy alloy with high ductility

Shao-yu Yen et al.

Summary: The Al10Co19Cr16Fe20Ni35 high entropy alloy was fabricated and characterized using transmission electron microscopy and CALPHAD method. The microstructure consisted of a face-centered cubic (fcc) phase matrix with B2 precipitates. The designed alloy showed a product of ultimate tensile strength and elongation of 38 GPa.%, which was among the highest in the Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Ni systems. The precipitation strengthening mechanism was evaluated using the Ashby-Orowan model. The high strength and high elongation in the designed alloy resulted from the B2 precipitate-strengthened fcc microstructure.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of dual wire-arc additive manufactured Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Ni high entropy alloy

Xukai Yao et al.

Summary: In this study, a combined cable wire and an aluminum welding wire were used for arc additive manufacturing of non-equimolar high-entropy alloy, and the differences in microstructure and mechanical properties in different parts of the alloy were systematically studied. The results showed that the alloy contained FCC phase and BCC phase, and with the increase of distance from the substrate, part of the FCC transformed into BCC. The increase of BCC improved the microhardness, yield strength, and ultimate tensile strength of the alloy.

Alloying behavior and characterization of (CoCrFeNiMn)90M10 (M=Al, Hf) high-entropy materials fabricated by mechanical alloying

Nai-ran Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the alloying behavior and microstructures of (CoCrFeNiMn)(90)M-10 (M=Al, Hf) high-entropy alloy (HEA) powders fabricated by mechanical alloying. It is observed that (CoCrFeNiMn)90Al10 powders have duplex solid-solution structures, while (CoCrFeNiMn)90Hf10 powders contain nanocrystalline HfNi3 anchored in amorphous structures. The rules of forming solid-solution and amorphous phases in as-milled HEA powders are proposed. The as-milled HEA powders exhibit a broader range of mixing enthalpy with atomic size difference for the solid-solution formed, and wider range of mixing enthalpy and entropy with atomic size difference for the amorphous phase compared to the as-cast HEA.
