Superior High-Temperature Strength in a Supersaturated Refractory High-Entropy Alloy

Rui Feng et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloys show promising applications at high temperatures and a single-phase alloy with high-temperature strength can be designed based on intrinsic material characteristics. The high-temperature strength retention is attributed to mechanisms such as large atomic-size and elastic-modulus mismatches, insensitive temperature dependence of elastic constants, and dominance of non-screw character dislocations caused by strong solute pinning.

NbMoTiVSix refractory high entropy alloys strengthened by forming BCC phase and silicide eutectic structure

Qin Xu et al.

Summary: The addition of silicon leads to the formation of silicide phase in refractory high entropy alloys, which helps refine the microstructure and improve the mechanical properties. The increase in silicon content results in higher yield and ultimate strength, along with a decrease in fracture strain. The presence of silicide also contributes to the change in fracture mechanism from ductile to a ductile and brittle mixed fracture mode.

High-temperature ultra-strength of dual-phase Re0.5 MoNbW(TaC)0.5 high-entropy alloy matrix composite

Qinqin Wei et al.

Summary: The dual-phase Re0.5MoNbW(TaC)(0.5) composite, synthesized by arc melting, exhibited remarkably high-temperature strength with a yield strength of approximately 901 MPa and a true ultimate compressive strength of around 1186 MPa at 1200 degrees C. The semi-coherent interface between the BCC phase and carbide, along with dipolar dislocation walls in the BCC phase and restricted dynamic interaction between defects in the carbide, provided effective strengthening effects.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Mo2C addition on the phase composition, microstructure evolution, and mechanical properties of NbTaW0.5(Mo2C) RHEAs. The results showed that the addition of Mo2C significantly improved the mechanical properties of the alloys, with NbTaW0.5(Mo2C)(0.2) RHEA reaching a yield strength exceeding 1000 MPa at 1473 K. The RHEAs exhibited good plasticity and promising application prospects.

Multi-heterostructure and mechanical properties of N-doped FeMnCoCr high entropy alloy

Zhufeng He et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel strategy of heavy nitrogen-doping in a low-cost metastable FeMnCoCr HEA to produce ultrastrong, tough, and low-cost HEAs. By simple thermomechanical processing, a multiheterostructure was formed, leading to a significant increase in yield strength and uniform elongation of the material. The high-nitrogen duplex alloy design strategy developed here provides a new paradigm for developing high-performance fcc HEAs.

Effect of the valence electron concentration on the yield strength of Ti-Zr-Nb-V high-entropy alloys

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of valence electron concentration on the yield strength of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) by designing and preparing a series of Ti-Zr-Nb-V HEAs. Experimental results showed that alloys with a low V/Zr ratio exhibited a single-phase body-centered cubic (BCC) solid solution structure, while alloys with a high V/Zr ratio contained a small amount of V2Zr phase. The yield strength of the alloys increased with an increasing V/Zr ratio.

Spinodal-modulated solid solution delivers a strong and ductile refractory high-entropy alloy

Zibing An et al.

Summary: A new strategy is demonstrated to achieve ductile BCC HfNbTiV by decomposing the BCC arrangement into two different phases via spinodal decomposition, resulting in chemical composition modulations and elastic strain on a length scale of a few tens of nanometers. The periodically spaced beta* with large lattice distortion is particularly effective in hindering dislocation movement, leading to strain hardening and enhancing plastic strain delocalization, ultimately achieving high yield strength and tensile strain to failure.
