Y2O3 nanoparticles decorated IN738LC superalloy manufactured by laser powder bed fusion: Cracking inhibition, microstructures and mechanical properties

Chuan Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, an in-situ Y2O3 nanoparticles decorated Inconel 738 LC composite was fabricated, significantly enlarging the process window and eliminating cracks in the printed parts. Additionally, Zr enrichment in Y4Al2O9 particles was observed, effectively inhibiting Zr segregation along grain boundaries. After heat treatment, the particle size doubled, resulting in improved strength of the material.

Investigation into the effect of energy density on densification, surface roughness and loss of alloying elements of 7075 aluminium alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion

Gan Li et al.

Summary: The study found that optimizing processing parameters can achieve higher relative density, but cannot fully eliminate the problem of hot cracks. Surface quality issues are related to severe balling phenomenon and large gaps between tracks. In terms of low-melting-point elements content, there is a linear relationship between VED and the loss of zinc and magnesium, but no influence on the loss of copper and chromium.

Metallurgy, mechanistic models and machine learning in metal printing

T. DebRoy et al.

Summary: Metal printing is widely used in key industries to produce complex parts that are difficult to manufacture conventionally, with metallurgy, mechanistic models, and machine learning driving its continued growth. Additive manufacturing allows for the printing of metallic parts with specific chemical compositions and properties, but the selection of alloys, printing processes, and variables results in a diverse range of microstructures, properties, and defects that impact the serviceability of printed parts.
