Effects of Ferulic Acid Esterase-Producing Lactic Acid Bacteria and Storage Temperature on the Fermentation Quality, In Vitro Digestibility and Phenolic Acid Extraction Yields of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) Silage

Yixiao Xie et al.

Summary: Two lactic acid bacteria strains, LF18 and LP23, with different ferulic acid esterase activities were isolated and studied for their effects on sorghum silage fermentation quality, digestibility, and phenolic acid extraction yields at 20, 30, and 40 degrees C. The inoculants significantly improved lactic acid contents and reduced NH3-N contents at all three temperatures. While neither LP23 nor LF18 significantly improved digestibility, LP23 showed higher phenolic acid extraction yields at 30 degrees C, and LF18 and control groups had improved yields at 40 degrees C. The FAE-producing LABs could potentially ameliorate negative effects of high temperature and improve fermentation quality of sorghum silage.

Polysaccharides from natural resources exhibit great potential in the treatment of ulcerative colitis: A review

Wei Niu et al.

Summary: Ulcerative colitis (UC) has a high incidence rate and there is an urgent need for a new drug that can safely and effectively treat it. Recent studies on polysaccharides from natural resources have shown that they can regulate inflammatory cytokines, intestinal flora, and immune system, protecting the intestinal mucosa.

β-Glucan Extracted from Highland Barley Alleviates Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in C57BL/6J Mice

Minjie Chen et al.

Summary: Highland barley beta-glucan (HBBG) can relieve ulcerative colitis (UC) in mice by reducing the disease activity index (DAI) score, histopathological damage, and colonic atrophy, as well as increasing colonic myeloperoxidase (MPO) concentration. Additionally, HBBG can lower intestinal permeability, maintain the balance of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, and modulate the structure of the intestinal flora.

Troxerutin Improves Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Mice

Xingqi Wang et al.

Summary: Using bioinformatics and network pharmacology, this study identified troxerutin as a compound that effectively improves ulcerative colitis in mice by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, protecting intestinal epithelial cells and colon tissue, and regulating signaling pathways. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of troxerutin also inhibit cell apoptosis and alleviate colonic fibrosis, showcasing its potential in disease treatment.

Lactobacillus paracasei L9 improves colitis by expanding butyrate-producing bacteria that inhibit the IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway

Min Deng et al.

Summary: The study showed that the probiotic Lactobacillus paracasei L9 can alleviate the development of DSS-induced colitis by enhancing the abundance of butyrate-producing bacterial strains. The mechanism involves butyrate suppressing the IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway to ameliorate inflammatory responses in colitis. This provides new insight into a potential therapeutic target for IBD remission.
