Early Paleozoic accretionary orogens along the Western Gondwana margin

Sebastian Oriolo et al.

Summary: Early Paleozoic accretionary orogens in Western Gondwana were characterized by continuous subduction, high-temperature metamorphism, and crustal extension. Retreating-mode accretionary orogens played a key role in the Early Paleozoic evolution of Gondwana, with slab roll back influencing geodynamic processes. This study highlights the importance of understanding the common tectonic processes in Western Gondwana orogens during the Early Paleozoic.

Neoproterozoic crustal growth in southern Malawi: New insights from petrology, geochemistry, and U-Pb zircon geochronology, and implications for the Kalahari Craton-Congo Craton amalgamation

Toshiaki Tsunogae et al.

Summary: The southern part of the Malawi Basement Complex provides insights into the complex history of collisions between ancient cratons and magmatic arcs. Geochemical and petrological data suggest a series of metamorphic and magmatic events, with remnants of the Stenian-Tonian magmatic arc being metamorphosed around 560 Ma. This region may correspond to a suture zone formed by the latest Neoproterozoic collision between the Kalahari and Congo Cratons.

Crustal evolution of the Paleoproterozoic Ubendian Belt (SW Tanzania) western margin: A Central African Shield amalgamation tale

Ariuntsetseg Ganbat et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the Ubendian Belt between the Tanzania Craton and the Bangweulu Block, revealing a Paleoproterozoic orogeny and magmatic events at around 1.8 Ga. The formation of the Ufipa Terrane may be related to collided crustal rocks from the Bangweulu Block. Geochemical analysis shows similarities between metagranitoids of the Western Ubendian Corridor and the Bangweulu Block, suggesting a shared geological history. The presence of Neoproterozoic overprints and Orosirian apatites indicate complex tectonic processes in the Ufipa Terrane.
