Wall temperature effects on shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction via direct numerical simulation

Ke Zhu et al.

Summary: The interaction between shockwave and turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate was investigated through direct numerical simulation at different wall temperatures. It was found that as the wall temperature increases, the skin friction decreases, resulting in stronger separation and increased turbulent kinetic energy on the heating wall. The study also observed an acceleration and amplification of the process of near-wall strip vortices evolving into complicated 3-dimensional structures at high wall temperatures.

Hypersonic Incident Shock-Boundary Layer Interaction Control by Wavy Patches

Ashok Chitharenjan et al.

Summary: The study focused on the influence of introducing a sinusoidal wavy patch on shock-boundary layer interaction (SBLI) at hypersonic inlets. Results showed that the wavy patch mitigated incident SBLI and induced significantly smaller flow separation compared to the uncontrolled case. The minimally intrusive design of the wavy patch also led to less flow distortion/instability compared to the uncontrolled case.

Impacts of periodic disturbances on shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction

Ke Zhu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that disturbances have little impact on the characteristics of the viscous layer, but they do strengthen the amplification of turbulent kinetic energy in the logarithmic layer and outer layer. While disturbances significantly reduce the separation bubble, they do not consistently affect the streamwise scale in instantaneous slices.

Improvement of the free-interaction theory for shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interactions

Wen-Zhong Xie et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the essential influencing factors for determining plateau pressure in shock wave/boundary layer interactions and proposes a new scaling rule based on two nondimensional parameters. This scaling rule shows promising results in collapsing experimental data onto a single curve, providing a more accurate theoretical predicting model for SWTBLIs.
