Development of statistical model for predicting terrestrial gamma radiation dose

Nuraddeen N. Garba et al.

Summary: A statistical model was developed in this study to predict Terrestrial Gamma Radiation Dose rates (TGRD) based on soil types and geological formations, regardless of the environment. The model was tested and found to have an accuracy of over 80%, making it effective in evaluating changes in background radioactivity levels in a terrestrial environment caused by natural and/or human activities in a certain area.

Statistical analysis of terrestrial gamma radiation dose rates in relation to different geological formations and soil types of Katsina State, Nigeria

Mukhtar Abdulkadir et al.

Summary: Terrestrial gamma radiation is the main source of outdoor radiation exposure to humans, and its dose rates vary with geological formation and soil type. In this study conducted in Katsina State, Nigeria, in situ measurements were performed, revealing significant variations in dose rates among different geological formations and soil types.

Investigation of potential environmental radiation risks associated with artisanal gold mining in Zamfara State, Nigeria

N. N. Garba et al.

Summary: A total of 166 measurements were taken using a handheld radiation meter. The average terrestrial gamma radiation dose rate was found to be 32 nGy h(-1), lower than the world average. Despite illegal mining activities in the area, the radiation exposure level was determined to be normal, posing no immediate radiation effects on humans and their surroundings.

Fly ash radiological characterization from thermal power plants in Iraq

Israa K. Ahmed et al.

Summary: The study measured the activity concentrations of radionuclides in fly ash samples from two thermal power plants in Iraq and evaluated the radiological hazard using UNSCEAR indexes. Results indicated no significant radiation hazard, although some samples exceeded activity concentration limits.
