Traveling wave vibration of graphene platelet reinforced porous joined conical-cylindrical shells in a spinning motion

Qingdong Chai et al.

Summary: This study investigates the traveling wave vibration characteristics of spinning graphene platelets reinforced metal foam joined conical-cylindrical shells for the first time. The effects of graphene platelets allocation on vibration characteristics are explored, and it is found that allocating more graphene platelets in large-size pore regions is not suitable for increasing traveling wave frequencies. Furthermore, allocating graphene platelets in the conical shell segment can significantly improve traveling wave frequencies compared to the cylindrical shell segment or the whole joined conical-cylindrical shells.

Nonlinear vibration responses of lattice sandwich beams with FGM facesheets based on an improved thermo-mechanical equivalent model

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nonlinear vibration behaviors of a lattice sandwich beam with a pyramidal truss core and functionally graded material facesheets under thermo-mechanical loads. An improved equivalent methodology is proposed to determine the transverse shear modulus of the pyramidal core under a non-uniform thermal field, transforming the lattice truss core into a continuous layer. The sandwich beam is modeled as a three-layered structure, with facesheets made of functionally graded materials. Nonlinear strain-displacement relations are established based on large deflection and classical beam theory, and the Lagrange method is used to obtain the equations governing free and forced vibration behaviors. The nonlinear time-independent responses of the sandwich beam under thermal environment are solved using the Newton-Raphson iteration technique and Newmark-beta method. A comprehensive parameter study is conducted to analyze the effects of non-uniform thermal environment, functionally graded materials, external load, and lattice core on the nonlinear vibrations of the beams.

Summary: In this study, an accurate modified couple stress-based cylindrical micro-panel model is developed within the framework of sinusoidal shear deformation theory. The model considers the geometric curve of cylindrical panels and is used to derive a system of Mathieu-Hill equations governing dynamic stability behaviors. The research investigates the size-dependent stability of functionally graded graphene nanoplatelets reinforced composite cylindrical micro-panels, showing significant influence of parameters such as length-to-span ratio and distribution patterns on stability.

Nonlinear forced vibration of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced metal foam cylindrical shells: internal resonances

Chao Ye et al.

Summary: The study focused on analyzing the nonlinear forced vibration of thin-walled metal foam cylindrical shells reinforced with functionally graded graphene platelets, particularly examining the 1:1:1:2 internal resonances. Different porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution significantly influenced the nonlinear behavior of the shells, with the inclusion of graphene platelets weakening the nonlinear coupling effect. The effects of porosity coefficient and GPL weight fraction on the nonlinear dynamical response were found to be strongly related to porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution.
