Investigating the mechanism of rock fracturing induced by high-pressure gas blasting with a hybrid continuum-discontinuum method

Ben Wang et al.

Summary: This study presented a hybrid continuum-discontinuum method to investigate the rock-breaking mechanism resulting from high-pressure gas blasting, and found significant differences in crack patterns, fracture mode, and vibration attenuation between high-pressure gas blasting and explosive blasting.

Numerical investigation on crack propagation and coalescence induced by dual-borehole blasting

Chuanjin Pu et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of borehole distance, delayed time, and guide hole type on crack propagation behavior under dual-borehole blasting were investigated through numerical simulations. It was found that grooved guide holes were more conducive to crack coalescence and lengthening. Additionally, two crack coalescence manners were identified, showing mutual, direct, and indirect interactions.

Modeling study of cumulative damage effects and safety criterion of surrounding rock under multiple full-face blasting of a large cross-section tunnel

Ling Ji et al.

Summary: A blast-induced damage model integrating tensile damage model with Drucker-Prager yield condition is established and simulated in a large cross-section tunnel excavation in China. The study shows that the maximum damage depth and maximum peak particle velocity occur in the middle of the tunnel invert, and the initiation sequence affects the critical PPV for rock damage in tunnel blasting excavation.

Peridynamic modelling of blasting induced rock fractures

Fan Zhu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a peridynamics-based computational approach for modelling blasting induced rock fractures. It proposes a new non-ordinary state-based peridynamics approach with a Johnson-Holmquist (JH2) constitutive model to consider various factors affecting rock behavior under blasting loads. The simulations demonstrate the ability of the approach to capture material failure and cracking patterns, highlighting the importance of intact strength parameters and material tensile strength in producing accurate fracture simulations.
