Investigations on microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties of TiN coatings deposited on three different tool materials

Guang Xian et al.

Summary: The study investigated the deposition of TiN coatings on different tool materials using arc evaporation, finding that the TiN coating on TiCN-based cermets exhibited the best wear resistance with significantly higher adhesion than that on high-speed steel; the different substrate materials affected the coating's microstructure, hardness, and atomic composition; friction tests showed that the wear mechanism of TiN coatings on all tool materials was mainly abrasive wear.

Tantalum-Titanium Oxynitride Thin Films Deposited by DC Reactive Magnetron Co-Sputtering: Mechanical, Optical, and Electrical Characterization

Daniel Cristea et al.

Summary: The possibility to tune the elemental composition and structure of binary Me oxynitride-type compounds could lead to attractive properties. By adjusting the Ta and Ti content, the hardness, adhesion, and optical and electrical properties of the TaTiON thin films were affected.

Specific features of the structure and properties of arc-PVD coatings depending on the spatial arrangement of the sample in the chamber

Sergey Grigoriev et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of the spatial arrangement of samples in a vacuum arc evaporator on the parameters of deposited coatings. The use of CAA-PVD technology results in coatings with higher hardness and lower microparticle density compared to the standard NNW6.6 evaporator. CAAPVD significantly reduces the microparticle density on the coating surface and improves the uniformity of thickness and microparticle distribution.

Growth mechanism and ablation behavior of CVD-HfC coating on the surface of C/C composites and CVD-SiC coating

Jian Zhang et al.

Summary: The HfC coatings deposited on the two substrates inherit their own substrate surface characteristics, with the HfC coating prepared on CVD-SiC coating showing better ablation resistance after ablation for 90 s under an oxyacetylene flame with heat flux of 2.4 MW/m(2), thanks to the transition layer effectively relieving thermal stress-induced damage.

AlTiTaZr(-N) Medium-Entropy Films Deposited by Magnetron Sputtering with a Combinatorial Approach

Mohamed El Garah et al.

Summary: AlTiTaZr(-N) films were synthesized using direct current magnetron sputtering technique with a combinatorial approach, forming coatings with varying morphologies and structures under different argon-nitrogen gas mixtures. The films exhibited high hardness and Young's modulus, and their structure remained thermally stable after annealing at 800 degrees C for 3 hours.
