Failure Analysis of Boiler Water Wall Tube: A Case Study from Thermal Power Plant

Debashis Ghosh et al.

Summary: Through various characterization techniques, the cause of failure in the power plant boiler tube has been identified as vibrational fatigue. The dynamic loading due to unstable fluid flow caused vibration and alternating stress. The presence of a defect in the fillet weld joint under continuous operating conditions led to fatigue failure.

Finite element-based virtual fields method with pseudo-real deformation fields for identifying constitutive parameters

Chanyang Kim et al.

Summary: For anisotropic elasticity, the order and size of FE meshes have minimal impact on the FE-VFM results, while the numerical integration order has a marginal effect. In contrast, for plastic materials, the size and order of FE meshes and the order of numerical integration are all critical for accuracy due to large, localized deformation. The concept of a pseudo-real deformation field is proposed to improve the accuracy of FE-VFM for optimizing constitutive parameters of plastic materials.
