Development of a novel reinforced scaffold based on chitosan/cellulose nanocrystals/halloysite nanotubes for curcumin delivery

Robust ZnO/HNTs-based superhydrophobic cotton fabrics with UV shielding, self-cleaning, photocatalysis, and oil/ water separation

Summary: In this study, multifunctional cotton fabrics with superhydrophobicity, photocatalysis, antifouling properties, oil/water separation, and UV protection were successfully prepared. The cotton fabrics were coated with micro/nano hierarchical ZnO/HNTs hybrid particles and PDMS, which provided excellent superhydrophobicity, photocatalytic activity, self-cleaning properties, and UV protection. The coated cotton fabrics also demonstrated good oil/water separation capabilities. Moreover, the superhydrophobicity of the fabrics was retained even after prolonged use and exposure.

The phage-embedded hydrogel material showed promising antibacterial effects lasting at least 24 hours, while promoting cell growth without affecting the material's strength and modulus. This innovative approach offers a potential alternative to conventional dressings by slowly releasing lytic phages to combat drug-resistant bacteria.
