Preliminary in vivo study of biodegradable PLA-PEU-PLA anti-adhesion membranes in a rat Achilles tendon model of peritendinous adhesions

Zebiri Hadda et al.

Summary: In this study, two biodegradable membranes, D-PACO1 and D-PACO2, were designed and tested in a rat model of peritendinous adhesions. The membranes effectively reduced the extent and severity of adhesions, with D-PACO2 exhibiting a slower degradation rate and better adhesion reduction compared to D-PACO1. D-PACO1 promoted tendon healing, while D-PACO2 did not interfere with healing. These preliminary findings highlight the need for further research on the design of D-PACO membranes to optimize nutrient diffusion and anti-adhesion effect. The study also suggests that adhesion formation may continue beyond the commonly cited 6-week period.

Polydopamine Biomaterials for Skin Regeneration

Mohsen Khodadadi Yazdi et al.

Summary: Designing biomaterials that mimic wound healing and skin regeneration has gained attention recently. Some biopolymers behave similarly to the extracellular matrix (ECM), supporting adhesion and cellular interactions. Polydopamine (PDA) is a natural bioadhesive and bioactive polymer with high chemical versatility, making it an exciting candidate for various biomedical applications. PDA-based biomaterials have near-infrared (NIR) absorption, excellent cell affinity, and can regulate cell behavior through signal transduction pathways.

Intralesional verapamil in the treatment of keloids: A clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical study

Doaa A. E. Abou-Taleb et al.

Summary: Intralesional verapamil has shown significant efficacy in treating keloids, with consistent histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluations supporting the clinical observations. After treatment, there was a significant decrease in VEGF and MMP9 expressions, suggesting that the treatment may work by suppressing these factors. Overall, IL verapamil is a simple and relatively safe method for treating keloids.

Effect of book-shaped acellular tendon scaffold with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells sheets on bone - tendon interface healing

Yongchun Zhou et al.

Summary: The book-shaped acellular tendon scaffold (ATS) combined with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells sheets (MSCS) showed therapeutic effects on promoting the regeneration of cartilage layer and enhancing the healing quality of patella-patellar tendon interface. This novel approach may have great potential for clinical application in tendon to bone healing.

Verapamil-containing silicone gel reduces scar hypertrophy

Jangyoun Choi et al.

Summary: It has been demonstrated that adding verapamil to topical silicone gel can enhance the treatment outcomes of hypertrophic scars. This approach significantly alleviates the features of hypertrophic scars, reducing SEI, fibroblast count, and promoting capillary formation. Further research is needed to determine the most effective concentration of verapamil-added silicone gel and explore the underlying mechanisms of action.

Dynamic exacerbation in inflammation and oxidative stress during the formation of peritendinous adhesion resulted from acute tendon injury

Pengfei Li et al.

Summary: The study found that various indicators, such as inflammatory factors and oxidative stress, significantly increased 24 hours after tendon injury, while fibrosis and inflammation around the tendon began to worsen 48 hours after surgery. Prompt and effective measures should be taken as soon as possible after tendon injury.

Verapamil inhibits ureteral scar formation by regulating CaMK II-mediated Smad pathway

Ming-Qiang Zeng et al.

Summary: Verapamil is reported to prevent scar formation, and our study showed that it inhibits TGF-beta 1 induced collagen fiber formation by regulating CaMK II in ureteral scar. This finding suggests a potential new mechanism for the prevention and treatment of ureteral scar.

Advances in the Development of Anti-Adhesive Biomaterials for Tendon Repair Treatment

Haiying Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that biomaterials can act as barriers to prevent adhesion formation, with most exhibiting good biocompatibility, biodegradability, and selective permeability. However, there are still some defects, and in the future, a focus on affordable raw materials and simplified production processes should be emphasized.
