Genetically-determined variations in photosynthesis indicate roles for specific fatty acid species in chilling responses

Donghee Hoh et al.

Summary: The study reveals that chilling sensitivity in cowpea is mainly modulated by specific lipid interactions rather than bulk properties. Accumulation of PG 16:1t may result from upstream effects on photosynthesis, altering redox status and production of reactive oxygen species.

Engineering an oilseed crop for hyper-accumulation of carotenoids in the seeds without using a traditional marker gene

Ming-Xia He et al.

Summary: This study genetically engineered Camelina sativa to produce red ketocarotenoids as a reporter gene, allowing visualization of transgenic events without the use of traditional selection marker genes. The transgenic seed oils exhibited higher antioxidant activity.

Genome-wide investigation and expression analysis of membrane-bound fatty acid desaturase genes under different biotic and abiotic stresses in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Juanjuan Li et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the membrane-bound fatty acid desaturase (FAD) gene family in sunflower, revealing their wide expression in different tissues and their significant roles in responding to various stresses. Specific up-regulated genes such as HaFAD32, HaADS8, HaFAD2.1, and HaADS9 could be potential candidate genes for sunflower tolerance breeding.

Genetic dissection of natural variation in oilseed traits of camelina by whole-genome resequencing and QTL mapping

Huang Li et al.

Summary: Genetic variation and whole-genome resequencing were conducted on a worldwide collection of 222 camelina accessions to facilitate modern breeding efforts. Phenotypic field evaluations were used to assess variations in key agronomic traits related to oilseed production. Through GWAS and linkage mapping, QTL and candidate genes controlling these traits were identified for potential breeding of advanced camelina varieties.
