Synthetic cyclopenta [b] indoles exhibit antineoplastic activity by targeting microtubule dynamics in acute myeloid leukemia cells

Hugo Passos Vicari et al.

Summary: The study identified a novel synthetic cyclopenta[b]indole compound that exhibited anti-leukemic effects by disrupting microtubule dynamics, presenting a potential therapeutic option for ATRA-resistant APL. This compound showed significant cytotoxic activity in APL cells, decreased clonogenicity, increased apoptosis, and induced cell cycle arrest, indicating its potential as a new antineoplastic agent. In addition, molecular analyses revealed the impact of the compound on gene expression and molecular pathways involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and DNA damage.

Loss of ten-eleven translocation 1 (TET1) expression as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker of endometrial carcinoma

Nien-Tzu Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that the expression of TET1, 5-mC, and 5-hmC plays an important role in the differential diagnosis of malignant and premalignant endometrial lesions. The expression of TET1 is associated with the prognosis of EC.

The Importance of Alpha-Actinin Proteins in Platelet Formation and Function, and Their Causative Role in Congenital Macrothrombocytopenia

Leanne R. O'Sullivan et al.

Summary: The actin cytoskeleton is crucial in platelet formation and function, with mutations in ACTN1/actinin-1 causing congenital macrothrombocytopenia (CMTP). Apart from their known role in platelet activation, actinins may have novel functions in platelet formation and maturation. Studies on the effects of CMTP-linked mutations on actinin-1 function and how they lead to changes in platelet count and morphology in patients have provided new insights.

Organization of the Cytoskeleton in Ectopic Foci of the Endometrium with Rare Localization

Konstantin A. Toniyan et al.

Summary: The study found that the content of alpha-actinin1 protein significantly increased in groups with endometriosis, particularly in patients with umbilical endometriosis. Additionally, mRNA content of the ACTN1 gene and 5hmC content increased in these groups. In groups with extragenital endometriosis, alpha- and beta-tubulin content decreased compared to control levels.
