The G-Protein-Coupled Estrogen Receptor Agonist G-1 Inhibits Proliferation and Causes Apoptosis in Leukemia Cell Lines of T Lineage

Liliana Torres-Lopez et al.

Summary: G-1 can induce cytotoxicity, cell cycle arrest, reduced viability, and apoptosis in acute T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines. The rise of intracellular Ca2+ and destabilization of microtubules are important factors in the cytotoxic effects of G-1.

Anticancer potential of alkaloids: a key emphasis to colchicine, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine, vinorelbine and vincamine

Praveen Dhyani et al.

Summary: Cancer, a leading cause of death worldwide, can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and drug therapy. However, these treatments not only have a significant economic impact on patients but also lead to drug resistance over time. Plant-based alkaloids have shown promising potential as preventive chemotherapy options for cancer treatment. This review provides comprehensive information on various alkaloids, their medical applications, mechanisms of action, and biotechnological studies, offering valuable resources for the development of effective and affordable cancer management programs using these alkaloids.

Epidemiology of Glioblastoma Multiforme-Literature Review

Szymon Grochans et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a median overall survival of approximately 15 months. This review analyzes the pathogenesis and epidemiological data of GBM, including age, gender, and tumor location. The data suggest that GBM is a higher-grade primary brain tumor and is significantly more common in men. Despite advancements in medicine, the risk of being diagnosed with glioma increases with age and median survival remains low. Additionally, the influence of stimulants, certain medications (such as NSAIDs), cell phone use, and exposure to heavy metals on GBM is difficult to determine clearly.

ANGPTL4 negatively regulates the progression of osteosarcoma by remodeling branched-chain amino acid metabolism

Shanyi Lin et al.

Summary: The downregulation of ANGPTL4 in osteosarcoma (OS) is associated with altered branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) metabolism. Knockdown of ANGPTL4 leads to BCAA accumulation and activation of the mTOR signaling pathway, enhancing OS cell proliferation. The ANGPTL4/BCAA/mTOR axis is therefore an important pathway in the progression of OS.

Identification of Gender- and Subtype-Specific Gene Expression Associated with Patient Survival in Low-Grade and Anaplastic Glioma in Connection with Steroid Signaling

Alex Hirtz et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a link between the expression of steroid biosynthesis enzymes or hormone receptors and patient survival in low-grade and anaplastic gliomas, which is dependent on gender and molecular subtype. The study also identifies genes associated with these steroid signaling factors and their functions, providing insights into the mechanisms underlying gender-dependent differences. These findings have important implications for refining the classification and personalized management of glioma patients.

GPER Agonist G-1 Disrupts Tubulin Dynamics and Potentiates Temozolomide to Impair Glioblastoma Cell Proliferation

Alex Hirtz et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive brain tumor in adults, affecting men more than women. Research suggests that the hormone estrogen plays a protective role in GBM female patient survival, and that the GPER agonist G-1 can inhibit cell proliferation independent of GPER, while enhancing the efficacy of standard chemotherapy.

Assessing fatty acid-induced lipotoxicity and its therapeutic potential in glioblastoma using stimulated Raman microscopy

Yuhao Yuan et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the therapeutic potential of free fatty acid-induced lipotoxicity for suppressing glioma growth. The results suggest that EPA treatment combined with depletion of lipid droplets significantly reduces the survival rate of glioma cells by more than 50%, indicating the therapeutic potential of this approach. Future work will focus on understanding the metabolic mechanism of EPA-induced lipotoxicity to enhance its anticancer effects.

Targeting Protein Kinase C in Glioblastoma Treatment

Noelia Geribaldi-Doldan et al.

Summary: GBM is a common and aggressive primary brain tumor with poor prognosis. GSCs, which are resistant to current treatments, have been identified as the origin of GBM. Targeting PKC may be an effective approach to treat recurrent GBM.
