Immunological Pathomechanisms of Spongiotic Dermatitis in Skin Lesions of Atopic Dermatitis

Ryoji Tanei et al.

Summary: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin disease characterized by itching. Its pathogenesis is complex and involves genetic predisposition, innate immunity dysregulation, epidermal barrier defects, and allergic inflammation. Recent research has shown that IgE-mediated delayed-type hypersensitivity plays a crucial role in the development of eczematous dermatitis.

Metal Allergy: State-of-the-Art Mechanisms, Biomarkers, Hypersensitivity to Implants

Magdalena Zemelka-Wiacek

Summary: Metal allergy is an environmental disorder that can cause allergic contact dermatitis. The sources of metal exposure include jewelry, everyday items, mobile phones, leather, and metal-rich food. Occupational exposure to metals is also significant in the occurrence of metal hypersensitivity. Nickel, chromium, and cobalt are the most common metal allergens, but gold, palladium, titanium, and others have also gained attention recently. This review discusses advancements in understanding metal allergy mechanisms, biomarkers, and biological treatments. It also addresses the relationship between metal hypersensitivity and implanted devices, as well as the latest diagnostic methods.

The role of interleukin-1β in the immune response to contact allergens

Kelvin Yeung et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the immunological mechanisms mediated by IL-1 beta in different phases of allergic contact dermatitis and highlights potential IL-1 beta-targeted treatment options. Studies using mouse models and human in vitro studies are primarily used as there is a lack of clinical studies on the effect of IL-1 beta in ACD.

Occupational allergic contact dermatitis: A 24-year, retrospective cohort study from Turkey

Esen Ozkaya et al.

Summary: This study investigated the epidemiologic profile of occupational allergic contact dermatitis (OACD) in Turkey through a retrospective cohort study. The results showed a male predominance, with construction workers being the most affected group. Main allergens included chromium in cement, thiurams in rubber gloves, hairdressing chemicals, and metals.
