A Parachlorella kessleri (Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta) strain tolerant to high concentration of calcium chloride

Xudong Liu et al.

Summary: Members of coccoid green algae have been found in extreme environments, and a unicellular green alga was discovered to slowly grow in high concentrations of calcium chloride in this study. Through morphological and molecular methods, the strain was identified as Parachlorella kessleri and its tolerance to calcium chloride stress was confirmed. This strain is expected to be a valuable material for studying resistance mechanisms to calcium ion stress in eukaryotic microbiology.

Toxicological Effects of Mercuric Chloride Exposure on Scenedesmus quadricauda

Yuheng Ge et al.

Summary: This study examined the toxic effects of mercuric chloride (HgCl2) on the green alga Scenedesmus quadricauda. High concentrations of HgCl2 completely inhibited algal cell growth and caused structural damage and disruption of photosynthesis, while low concentrations affected enzyme activity and cell content. These findings contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms by which HgCl2 pollution affects aquatic ecosystems and may inform future pollution management strategies.

Multi-omics responses of red algae Pyropia haitanensis to intertidal desiccation during low tides

Lin-bin Huang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that intertidal red algae Pyropia haitanensis blades respond to multiple stresses by participating in various metabolic pathways, such as glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism and carbon fixation in photosynthetic organisms. Correlated DEGs/DAMs of glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism were significantly enriched under stressful conditions, highlighting the importance of these pathways in stress response.
