High blood pressure induced by vitamin D deficiency is associated with renal overexpression and hyperphosphorylation of Na+-K+-2Cl-cotransporter type 2

Weverton M. Luchi et al.

Summary: The study found that rats with vitamin D deficiency (VDD) had higher levels of hypertension compared to controls, accompanied by overexpression and hyperphosphorylation of Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter type 2 in the renal cortex and medulla, as well as increased levels of phosphorylated Na+/H+ exchanger type 3 and decreased expression of total and phosphorylated Na+/Cl- cotransporter. Changes in intrarenal renin-angiotensin system (RAS) components and increased oxidative stress were also observed in VDD rats.

Empagliflozin Inhibits Proximal Tubule NHE3 Activity, Preserves GFR, and Restores Euvolemia in Nondiabetic Rats with Induced Heart Failure

Avio A. Borges-Junior et al.

Summary: The study showed that the SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin is associated with reduced proximal tubule NHE3 activity, restoration of euvolemia, and preservation of renal mass in preventing heart failure progression. Additionally, dysregulation of proximal tubule SGLT2 may be involved in the pathophysiology of non-diabetic heart failure.
