Interfacial Microstructure Formation in Al7SiMg/Cu Compound Castings

Aina Opsal Bakke et al.

Summary: Compound casting using low-pressure die casting process was employed to produce Al7SiMg alloy/copper components. A flux coating was applied on copper pipes to create a continuous metallurgical bond between copper and aluminum without surface treatment. The interface layer was found to contain various Al-Cu intermetallic phases and the quaternary phase Al5Cu2Mg8Si6.

Achieving high-strength metallurgical bonding between A356 aluminum and copper through compound casting

Aina Opsal Bakke et al.

Summary: The research explores a novel surface coating method using hot-dip Sn-coating to achieve high-quality bonding between cast aluminum alloy A356 and commercially pure copper. Results show a maximum ultimate tensile strength of 90.8 MPa for the bimetal interface, with discussions on the effects of Sn-coating on wettability and interfacial microstructure formation.

Cold Roll Bonding of Tin-Coated Steel Sheets with Subsequent Heat Treatment

Illia Hordych et al.

Summary: In this study, a thin tin coating was used as an intermediate layer to strengthen the interface of cold roll bonded steel sheets. The results showed that the tin coating increased the bond area and directly participated in the joining process by establishing a reactive link between the two substrates. Subsequent heat treatment also affected the bond strength by the diffusion of tin at the interface.
