Axial mechanical properties and robust optimization of foam-filled hierarchical structures

Xiang Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, two novel foam-filled hierarchical structures (FSHT and FCHT) are proposed and their superior crashworthiness performance compared to traditional structures is validated. The energy absorption capability of these structures is investigated through theoretical solutions and design parameter analysis. The robust optimization method is employed to obtain more stable performance design parameters. The findings provide new directions for the design of energy-absorbing devices.

Dynamic response and failure mode of steel-concrete composite panels under low-velocity impact

Quanquan Guo et al.

Summary: This study mainly focuses on the local punching failure mode of steel-concrete composite panels under low-velocity impact. Through experiments, it identifies five types of damage patterns under different impact energies and discovers that reducing the spacing of tie bars enhances the impact resistance of composite panels. A five-segment resistance function model for the entire impact response process is proposed, and the validity of failure mode criteria and formulas is confirmed through comparisons with test results.

Numerical investigation into impact responses of an offshore wind turbine jacket foundation subjected to ship collision

Xiao Liu et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic parametric study on the impact responses of offshore wind turbine structures. The results showed that bow impact on a leg tube resulted in the greatest deformation and tower top displacement. Centric impact caused more severe local deformation than eccentric impact. Increasing the impact velocity also increased the peak bending moment at the impact position. The study provides important insights for the development of crashworthy offshore wind turbine structures.

Vehicle collision with RC structures: A state-of-the-art review

Xiuchen Xu et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the current state-of-art in studying RC structures subjected to vehicle collision. The failure modes, influencing factors, and impact force response of different RC structures impacted by vehicular collision are analyzed and divided into three categories. The current techniques for studying vehicle-RC structure collision, such as numerical, experimental, and analytical techniques, are highlighted. It is found that applying reinforcement can effectively mitigate the damage caused by vehicle impact, and the influences of structural factors and reinforcement materials on impact resistance and failure response are reviewed.

Blast behaviors of precast concrete sandwich EPS panels: FEM and theoretical analysis

Xin Ye et al.

Summary: Various numerical studies have been conducted to investigate the blast behavior of precast concrete sandwich panels (PCSP) as components of precast concrete structures (PCS). The study established a three-dimensional finite element model and conducted explosion tests to validate the accuracy and reliability of the model. Parametric analyses were carried out to investigate factors influencing PCSP blast resistance, with results showing weaker blast resistance compared to conventional reinforced concrete slabs.
