Boosting of overall water splitting activity by regulating the electron distribution over the active sites of Ce doped NiCo-LDH and atomic level understanding of the catalyst by DFT study

Hariharan N. Dhandapani et al.

Summary: In this study, Ce3+ doping of NiCo-LDH was found to enhance the performance of both oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The doping of Ce improved the electronic conductivity of the catalyst and Co-3d states played a dominant role in water splitting activity. This work provides an alternate route to design a highly efficient and cost effective catalyst for global clean energy production.

Tuning structure, electronic, and catalytic properties of non-metal atom doped Janus transition metal dichalcogenides for hydrogen evolution

Surinder Pal Kaur et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties of Janus MoSSe monolayer with the doping of atoms B, C, N, and P have been systematically studied using density functional theory. The doping of non-metal atoms into TMD sheets shows energetic stability of the doped Janus sheets, reduces band gaps, and tunes magnetic properties, broadening their applications in spintronics. The catalytic activity of the Janus TMDs for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) is explored, with boron doped Janus sheet showing superior performance even in the absence of external strain and large basal plane vacancies.
