Investigation on photocatalytic property of SiH/GaSe and SiH/InSe heterojunctions for photocatalytic water splitting

Zekun Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structural stability, electronic structure, and optical properties of monolayers SiH, GaSe, and InSe, as well as the SiH/GaSe and SiH/InSe heterojunctions, through first principles calculations. The band alignment and charge transfer in the heterojunctions, as well as their efficiency in solar-to-hydrogen production during photocatalytic water splitting, are systematically analyzed. The influence of an applied electric field or biaxial strain on the electronic structure of the heterojunctions is also considered. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in the absorption range and intensity of SiH/GaSe and SiH/InSe heterojunctions, which is conducive to enhancing the solar-to-hydrogen production efficiency. Furthermore, both SiH/GaSe and SiH/InSe heterojunctions exhibit a type-II band alignment, favoring improved photocatalytic activity efficiency. The band gap and band edge structure of the heterojunctions can be effectively adjusted by an applied electric field or biaxial strain, providing a means to enhance the photocatalysis performance.
