Influence of the composition and morphology of PdNiFe/C nanocatalysts toward ethanol oxidation

Fabien R. Climaco et al.

Summary: In this study, the electrocatalytic activity of different catalysts toward ethanol oxidation was investigated using electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical measurements. The results showed that the addition of Ni-Fe to Pd catalysts enhanced their activity and stability, particularly for those with 30at.% of Ni + Fe. In situ FTIR data revealed that Ni and Fe favored the formation of acetate and acetic acid at lower potentials, while the core-shell catalyst produced these intermediates at the lowest potentials.

Enhanced ethanol oxidation over Pd nanoparticles supported porous graphene-doped MXene using polystyrene particles as sacrificial templates

Yi-Zhe Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a Pd/GO-MXene-PS catalyst, which is prepared by combining graphene oxide (GO) and MXenes with polystyrene (PS) particles as sacrificial templates, and exhibits superior catalytic performance in ethanol oxidation. By optimizing the doping ratio of MXene to GO, the mass activity of Pd/GO(5)-MXene(5)-PS is 3 times higher than that of commercial Pd/C, and it shows faster kinetics in ethanol oxidation. The enhanced ethanol oxidation is attributed to the excellent 3D interconnected porous structure, large surface area, good conductivity, and homogeneous Pd distribution of Pd/GO(5)-MXene(5)-PS. This work provides a new idea for creating 3D porous MXene composite materials in electrocatalysis.

Improvement of electrocatalytic alcohol oxidation by tuning the phase structure of atomically ordered intermetallic Pd-Sn nanowire networks

Zhengshuai Cao et al.

Summary: This study reports a method for preparing Pd-Sn OICs with adjustable molar ratios of Pd and Sn. Different phases of OICs can be synthesized by co-reduction reactions, and pure phases can be transformed into mixed phases by altering the feed ratio. It is found that a specific phase of OICs exhibits a large electrochemically active surface area and excellent electrocatalytic performance due to its optimized electronic structure.
