Fabrication of surface oxygen vacancies on NiMnAl-LDO catalyst by high-shear mixer-assisted preparation for low-temperature CO2 methanation

Junming Zeng et al.

Summary: The NiMnAl-LDO catalyst prepared with high-shear mixer exhibited high low-temperature activity in CO2 methanation, attributed to the improved catalyst dispersion and increased oxygen vacancies due to the strong shear force. The results suggest that enhancing the content of oxygen vacancies can improve CO2 adsorption capacity and reduce the reaction energy barrier.

Improved pechini sol-gel fabrication of Li2B4O7/NiO/Ni3(BO3)2 nanocomposites to advanced photocatalytic performance

Makarim A. Mahdi et al.

Summary: Nano-scaled Li2B4O7/NiO/Ni-3(BO3)(2) (LiBNi) composites were successfully fabricated through an improved pechini sol-gel method for the removal of dye contaminations from drinking water under UV/Visible irradiation. Different complexing agents were utilized to optimize the properties of LiBNi nanocomposites, and the obtained nanocomposites were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, FT-IR, and EDX. The band-gap of LiBNi nanocomposites was calculated as 3.35 eV based on UV-Vis data. The photocatalytic degradation of Li2B4O7/NiO/Ni-3(BO3)(2) nanocomposites was examined for the removal of acid red 88 pollutant from aqueous solution. The study evaluated the effects of nanocatalyst concentration and irradiation type on the removal of drinking water contaminants.

Highly selective and stable nickel catalysts supported on ceria promoted with Sm2O3, Pr2O3 and MgO for the CO2 methanation reaction

G. Siakavelas et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic performance of Ni catalysts supported on different CeO2-based oxides for the methanation of CO2. It was found that the addition of Sm3+ or Pr3+ generated oxygen vacancies on the catalyst surface, improving the catalytic activity, while the addition of Mg2+ reinforced the resistance against sintering of Ni/Mg-Ce catalyst.

Enhanced low-temperature activity of CO2 methanation over ceria-promoted Ni-Al2O3 nanocatalyst

Reihaneh Daroughegi et al.

Summary: This article discusses the influence of four promoters (Zr, Ce, La, and Mo) on the structural properties and low temperature activity of Ni-Al2O3 catalyst in CO2 methanation reaction, with ceria having a positive effect on the catalytic performance. The addition of ceria favors the dispersion of NiO species, reduces Ni particle size, and increases metal-support interaction, leading to superior catalytic activity and stability. The 25wt.%Ni-5wt.%CeO2-Al2O3 catalyst achieved a maximum CO2 conversion of 76.4% and CH4 selectivity of 99.1% at 350 degrees C.

Vacancy engineering of the nickel-based catalysts for enhanced CO2 methanation

Minghui Zhu et al.

Summary: By engineering oxygen vacancies, the activity of nickel-based catalysts in CO2 methanation reaction is enhanced. The introduction of Y2O3 to CeO2 facilitates the generation of surface oxygen vacancies, promoting the direct dissociation of CO2 and improving the methanation activity. This vacancy engineering strategy may guide the rational design of heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation.

Facile Cr3+-Doping Strategy Dramatically Promoting Ru/CeO2 for Low-Temperature CO2 Methanation: Unraveling the Roles of Surface Oxygen Vacancies and Hydroxyl Groups

Xianglan Xu et al.

Summary: The introduction of Cr element in the support of Ru/CeO2 catalyst significantly enhanced CO2 methanation activity, primarily by promoting the formate pathway. Cr3+ doping increased the number of surface oxygen vacancies and hydroxyl groups, thereby increasing the production of bicarbonates and formates, leading to improved methane production rates at low temperatures for the Ru/Ce(0.9)Cr(0.1)O(x) catalyst.

Ni nanoparticles dispersed on oxygen vacancies-rich CeO2 nanoplates for enhanced low-temperature CO2 methanation performance

Yixiong Du et al.

Summary: Efficient catalysts for CO2 methanation at low temperature are highly promising yet challenging to develop. This study successfully synthesized a Ni/CeO2-P catalyst with nanoplate-shaped CeO2 as the carrier and dispersed nickel nanoparticles, showing remarkable performance at 300 degrees C with high CO2 conversion rate and 100% CH4 selectivity. The catalyst also demonstrated excellent stability even under high WHSV, showcasing the potential for practical applications. Characterization revealed the crucial role of abundant oxygen vacancies in promoting the interaction between Ni metal and CeO2 support for enhanced catalytic performance. Additionally, in-situ DRIFTS technology provided insights into reaction intermediates and possible pathways for CO2 methanation.

G. Siakavelas et al.

Summary: In this study, nickel catalysts supported on various metal oxides were prepared and characterized for their catalytic performance in CO2 methanation reaction. The results showed that doping of specific metal oxides can increase the oxygen vacancy and moderate basic site density of the catalysts, leading to enhanced CO2 methanation reaction rates. Additionally, the addition of La3+ was found to stabilize the Ni active sites and improve catalytic properties, particularly in terms of CO2 conversion and CH4 yield.
