A systematic review of augmented reality in chemistry education

Alex Mazzuco et al.

Summary: Augmented reality (AR) technology is increasingly being used in chemistry education, providing an important resource for enhancing understanding of complex concepts. Despite the reported benefits, there has been no systematic review specifically addressing the use of AR in chemistry education. This study analyzed 49 papers from 2011 to 2020 and found a recent increase in publications on this topic. Smartphones and tablets were the most frequently used devices, with molecular structures being the main focus of AR in chemistry education. The advantages of using AR technology were found in the affective learning domain, while challenges included difficulties with student usage, distraction, and technical problems. The research conclusions highlight gaps in the field and provide suggestions and directions for future work.

State productivity and economic growth

Louis H. Amato et al.

Summary: This study analyzes state-level productivity levels and growth rates using data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The findings suggest that states with higher initial productivity tend to experience slower productivity growth over time, while states with lower initial productivity have higher productivity growth. Factors such as education (in the form of a college degree) and faster growth rates in the Hispanic population contribute to increased productivity. Worker productivity is a reliable indicator of changes in wages and living standards. Examining differences in state-level worker productivity growth across different time intervals helps identify factors influencing geographical differentials in productivity and determine specific factors contributing to productivity growth and decline.

Motivation and Productivity of Employees in Higher Education during the First Lockdown

Jacqueline R. Rietveld et al.

Summary: In this study, the relationships between perceived competence, autonomy, relatedness, intrinsic motivation, and productivity during the first lockdown in 2020 were examined among 623 employees of a higher education institution. The findings showed that compared to the period before the lockdown, employees experienced an increase in autonomy and competence, but a decrease in relatedness, intrinsic motivation, and productivity. Structural equation modelling revealed that the decrease in productivity could be explained by a decrease in intrinsic motivation, which in turn could be explained by changes in relatedness, autonomy, and perceived competence. This study highlights both positive and negative motivational consequences of teleworking during the lockdown, with a negative impact on employees' productivity.
