A parametric study on the performance of vapor chamber in association with pillar distribution

M. Muneeshwaran et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of pillar distribution on the performance of a vapor chamber. Through the fabrication and testing of 11 different models, it is found that pillar distribution can affect the thermal resistance and maximum heating load of the vapor chamber. The experimental results show that merely increasing the number of pillars does not always reduce the thermal resistance; a better pillar distribution can improve vapor flow and enhance the performance of the vapor chamber.

A semi-empirical model for thermal resistance and dryout during boiling in thin porous evaporators fed by capillary action

Srivathsan Sudhakar et al.

Summary: Two-phase passive heat transport devices use porous evaporators for phase change and fluid transport. This study presents a new semi-empirical model for predicting thermal resistance and dryout during boiling in capillary-fed evaporators. The model considers thermal conduction, volumetric evaporation, and capillary-driven liquid flow to obtain temperature distribution and local pressures within the porous structure. The model successfully predicts trends in dryout limit with particle size, heater size, and evaporator thickness.

Thermal reliability-based design optimization using Kriging model of PCM based pin fin heat sink

Khalil Dammak et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the thermal reliability optimization of a pin fin heat sink filled with phase change material, aiming to study the heat transfer performance for cooling electronic devices. The methodology combines 3D finite element simulation, Kriging substitution model, and optimization procedure to determine the optimum thermal configuration. The results show that the optimal design achieved a 30% reduction in maximum temperature through reliability optimization.
