Role of condensation on boiling heat transfer in a confined chamber

Suchen Wu et al.

Summary: By investigating the influence of condensation surface wettability on the coupled boiling and condensation heat transfer in a confined chamber, an optimal contact angle of 85 degrees was identified. Two modified condensation surfaces were proposed for enhanced heat transfer efficiency, with the biphilic surface exhibiting relatively better heat transfer performance.

Improved pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann model for liquid water transport inside gas diffusion layers

Jiapei Yang et al.

Summary: Liquid water transport in gas diffusion layers (GDLs) is crucial for water management in PEMFCs. A pseudopotential multiphase lattice Boltzmann model was developed to study the effects of capillary pressures and contact angles on liquid water invasion process in GDLs with mixed wettability. The study shows that liquid water exhibits capillary fingering behaviors and saturation profiles become more non-uniform with increasing PTFE contact angle in the GDLs.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated bubble growth and pool boiling heat transfer characteristics on semi-modified pillar arrays at atmospheric pressure. Numerical simulations revealed bubble behaviors inside pillar gaps at different contact angles. The results showed significant effects of surface treatment and additives on bubble behaviors and heat transfer processes.

Nanoparticles deposition patterns in evaporating nanofluid droplets on smooth heated hydrophilic substrates: A 2D immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann simulation

Dongmin Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the dynamics and patterns of nanoparticles deposition in evaporating nanofluid droplets on a smooth hydrophilic heated substrate under zero gravity conditions. It found that Marangoni flow on the droplet interface was the dominant transportation mechanism for nanoparticles. The deposition patterns after droplet evaporation were influenced by the substrate contact angle and temperature, resulting in either ring-like or bump-like patterns based on the pinning of the triple phase contact line and strength of Marangoni flow.
