Exposure to PM2.5 during Pregnancy and Fetal Growth in Eastern Massachusetts, USA

Michael Leung et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between PM2.5 exposure during pregnancy and fetal growth measures in a pregnancy cohort in Eastern Massachusetts. The results show that higher gestational exposure to PM2.5 is associated with smaller fetal growth measures, particularly for biparietal diameter, abdominal circumference, and birth weight.

Low and High Ambient Temperatures during Pregnancy and Birth Weight among 624,940 Singleton Term Births in Israel (2010-2014): An Investigation of Potential Windows of Susceptibility

Xavier Basagana et al.

Summary: Findings from a study of term live births in Israel (2010-2014) suggest that exposure to extreme temperatures, especially heat, during specific time windows may result in reduced fetal growth. The associations with temperatures during the entire pregnancy were consistent.

Bias due to Selection on Live Births in Studies of Environmental Exposures during Pregnancy: A Simulation Study

Michael Leung et al.

Summary: The study explores the impact of live birth bias on the association between prenatal environmental exposures and postnatal outcomes. Simulation results show that bias may lead to downward exposure-outcome associations depending on fetal selection mechanisms and the prevalence of unmeasured factors.

Fetal cranial growth trajectories are associated with growth and neurodevelopment at 2 years of age: INTERBIO-21st Fetal Study

Jose Villar et al.

Summary: This study identified five fetal cranial growth trajectories associated with specific neurodevelopmental, behavioral, visual, and growth outcomes, predominantly focusing on the maturation of cognitive, language, and visual skills. Further research should explore the potential for preventive interventions during pregnancy to improve infant neurodevelopmental outcomes before the critical window of opportunity that precedes the divergence of growth at 20-25 weeks' gestation.

Disproportionate exposure to urban heat island intensity across major US cities

Angel Hsu et al.

Summary: The study shows that people of color and those living in poverty are disproportionately affected by urban heat exposure in nearly all major cities in the continental United States. This highlights the unequal distribution of heat exposure across different income groups and racial backgrounds and its potential impacts on public health and economic outcomes.
