Sequence stratigraphy of the Miocene siliciclastic-carbonate sediments in Sadat Area, north-west of Gulf of Suez: Implications for Miocene eustasy

Haitham M. Ayyad et al.

Summary: The Miocene sequences in the northwest of the Gulf of Suez represent transitional zones between carbonate-dominated and siliciclastic-dominated strata. This study examines the sequence stratigraphy of the Sadat Area, utilizing biostratigraphic data and microfacies analysis to contribute to the understanding of the geology of the studied successions and syn-rift deposition. The results show the distinction of four genetic Miocene sequences, primarily deposited in lagoon to outer-shelf settings. The study highlights the influence of local tectonic activity and eustatic sea-level changes on Miocene deposition in the area.

Reservoir zonation in the framework of sequence stratigraphy: A case study from Sarvak Formation, Abadan Plain, SW Iran

Arad Kiani et al.

Summary: The study on the Sarvak Formation in the Zagros Basin of Iran reveals that the formation was deposited in a homoclinal carbonate-ramp environment and influenced by diagenetic processes in marine, meteoric, and deeply buried environments. Sedimentary facies were found to be the most important factors controlling the distribution of reservoir zones, followed by diagenetic processes.

Late Campanian-Maastrichtian foraminiferal biostratigraphy and paleoecology at Wadi Tarfa (North Eastern Desert, Egypt)

Youssef S. Bazeen et al.

Summary: The foraminiferal assemblages of the upper Campanian-Maastrichtian studied in the Wadi Tarfa section of the Egyptian North Eastern Desert provide insights into paleoenvironments and relative sea-level changes. By analyzing the benthic foraminiferal dataset, paleobathymetry, oxygenation levels, and trophic conditions were quantified. The inferred foraminiferal-based sea-level curve indicates fluctuating paleodepths and distinguishes third-order sequences, with the development showing a greater control of eustasy and regional impact of the Syrian Arc Orogeny on sea-level events.

Sequence stratigraphy and distribution of organic-rich Lower Cretaceous mixed clastic-carbonate strata in Matruh Basin, northwestern Egypt: Constrains on the Tethyan sea level changes, palaeoclimate, and tectonics

Amr S. Deaf

Summary: Integrated palynological, lithological, and geophysical analyses of the Lower Cretaceous in Matruh Basin enabled high-resolution sequence stratigraphic analysis. The fluctuations in palynomorph ratio reflected changes in Tethyan sea levels, with an impact from regional climate and tectonics. The deposition of organic-rich sediments was influenced by these factors, leading to distinct sedimentary patterns in the basin.
