Spring snow depth changes and feedback to surface air temperature across the Tibetan plateau from 1961 to 2013

Xiaona Chen et al.

Summary: The study observed a slightly negative trend in Spring snow depth (SSD) on the Tibetan Plateau from 1961 to 2013, with an initial increase from 1961 to 1981 followed by a decrease from 1982 to 2013. Sensitivity analysis revealed that the decline in SSD was systematically correlated with a positive T-s anomaly, but the potential feedback to T-s was attenuated during 1982-2013.

Variability in observed snow depth over China from 1960 to 2014

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study revealed a slight increase in snow depth in China, with significant regional differences. Snow depth in northern China showed a negative correlation with the Arctic Oscillation (AO), while central China exhibited a positive correlation. Overall, China experienced a considerably shorter snow season during the study period.

Evaluation of Phase Discrimination Methods and Snow Fraction Perturbations in Arid Regions of Northwest China

Summary: Snow fraction estimation is crucial for water management in arid regions. Different methods for snow discrimination have varying levels of accuracy, with wet-bulb temperature (T-w) method performing the best. The impacts of snowfall and climate change on snow fraction differ between wetter and drier subregions in Xinjiang.

Summary: This study reveals the characteristics and variation mechanisms of interannual variability in atmospheric water vapor content over East Asia during winter, primarily influenced by atmospheric circulation in the Northern Hemisphere and anomalies in tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures.

Anthropogenic influence on extreme precipitation over global land areas seen in multiple observational datasets

Summary: Climate models predict an intensification of extreme precipitation under climate change, but this effect is difficult to detect in the observational record. Using machine learning methods, a physically interpretable anthropogenic impact on extreme precipitation is found in global observational data sets.

Observed snow depth trends in the European Alps: 1971 to 2019

Michael Matiu et al.

Summary: This study presents an Alpine-wide analysis of snow depth in the European Alps, incorporating data from over 2000 stations in six countries. The analysis reveals decreasing trends in snow depth for most stations from November to May over the past few decades. Different regions within the Alps show varying trends, challenging the generalization of results across the entire mountain range.
