Preparation of porous biochar from heavy bio-oil for adsorption of methylene blue in wastewater

Huiyan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, porous biochar adsorbent was prepared from heavy bio-oil for the removal of methylene blue in wastewater. The results showed that calcium citrate was the most suitable template agent, and the specific surface area and micropore volume of the biochar increased and then decreased with the increasing mass ratio of template to bio-oil and carbonization temperature. The adsorption capacity of the porous biochar reached the maximum value at pH 12, which was 28% higher than that of activated carbon.

Facile Tailoring of Structures for Controlled Release of Paracetamol from Sustainable Lignin Derived Platforms

Mario Culebras et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized hydrogels using lignin, a non-valorized biopolymer, crosslinked with PEGDGE. The ratio of crosslinker used influenced the structural and chemical properties of the resulting hydrogels, with increased crosslinker amount leading to smaller pore size and higher swelling capacity. Paracetamol release test showed higher drug diffusion for hydrogels produced with a lignin:PEGDGE ratio of 1:1.
