GhAPC8 regulates leaf blade angle by modulating multiple hormones in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Yanlong Jin et al.

Summary: The study identified the role of GhAPC8 in regulating leaf blade angle by modulating the accumulation and signaling of multiple phytohormones. This was achieved through activation of BR biosynthesis and signaling pathways and ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis genes upon silencing GhAPC8.

SAMBA controls cell division rate during maize development

Pan Gong et al.

Summary: SAMBA has been identified as a plant-specific regulator of the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) in Arabidopsis and maize. Two samba genome edited mutants in maize showed growth defects, with samba-1 representing a knockout allele and samba-3 producing a truncated protein that still interacted with APC/C but with altered activity. This suggests a dosage-dependent role for SAMBA in controlling developmental processes.

Role of sugar and auxin crosstalk in plant growth and development

Bhuwaneshwar Sharan Mishra et al.

Summary: In the natural environment, plants utilize sugar molecules and phytohormones to coordinate growth and survival, affecting physiological processes from seed germination to senescence. Sugars not only serve as energy resources and structural components but also function as signaling molecules interacting with plant hormones, stress, and other pathways. Phytohormone auxin plays a crucial role in various stages of the plant life cycle and response to dynamic environments for optimal growth and development.

Prickle morphogenesis in rose is coupled with secondary metabolite accumulation and governed by canonical MBW transcriptional complex

Mohit Kumar Swarnkar et al.

Summary: Roses play an economically important role in various industries, but the presence of prickles on roses makes harvesting and transportation difficult, and the molecular mechanisms of prickles development remain largely unexplored. Research showed that prickles in roses accumulate phenolic compounds and lignin, similar to trichomes, and are regulated by a transcriptional network involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthetic pathway. The study supported the proposition that prickles evolved from trichomes.

The Role of Anaphase-Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C) in Plant Reproduction

Marina de Lyra Soriano Saleme et al.

Summary: Most eukaryotic species propagate through sexual reproduction involving male and female gametes. In flowering plants, this process begins with DNA replication and chromosome segregation, followed by mitotic divisions to form male and female gametophytes. Precise regulation of gametogenesis progression is essential for successful meiotic cell division and sexual differentiation in plant species.

The circadian-controlled PIF8-BBX28 module regulates petal senescence in rose flowers by governing mitochondrial ROS homeostasis at night

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: Research in roses has identified a circadian-regulated RhPIF8-RhBBX28 module that controls flower senescence by governing mitochondrial ROS homeostasis. RhBBX28 gene influences respiratory metabolism-related gene expression and directly represses SUCCINATE DEHYDROGENASE 1, a key player in mtROS homeostasis. The study sheds light on the regulation of ROS homeostasis in nonphotosynthetic organs like petals.

Morphological studies of rose prickles provide new insights

Ningning Zhou et al.

Summary: The study focused on describing the types, tissues of origin, and development of prickles in roses, proposing the first categorization of prickles in the Rosa genus. The research showed that non-glandular prickles and glandular prickles both originate from multiple cells of the ground meristem beneath the protoderm.

Ethylene-regulated asymmetric growth of the petal base promotes flower opening in rose (Rosa hybrida)

Chenxia Cheng et al.

Summary: Using rose as a model, researchers identified the regulatory network underlying petal movement during flower opening, with RhPMP1 and ethylene signaling playing crucial roles. The study revealed how ethylene influences cell growth at the base of petals and the process of flower opening.
