Yersinia enterocolitica Outbreak Associated with Pasteurized Milk

Joann F. Gruber et al.

Summary: A cluster of Yersinia enterocolitica cases occurred in a youth summer camp and nearby community in northeastern Pennsylvania in July 2019. The outbreak was linked to pasteurized milk from a small dairy, Dairy A, with 109 identified cases. Genomic sequencing showed indistinguishable isolates from camp members, community members, and unpasteurized milk, suggesting the milk as the outbreak source. Recommendations include collaboration between governmental agencies and small dairies for outbreak prevention strategies.
