A series of novel three-dimensional lanthanide metal-organic frameworks were synthesized and characterized, with compounds 1, 2, and 4 exhibiting luminescence of trivalent lanthanide ions. In particular, the luminescence lifetime of compound 2 was thoroughly investigated.
A series of novel three-dimensional lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) were prepared under solvothermal conditions. These Ln-MOFs are formulated as [Ln(4)(L)(3)(H2O)(8)](n)center dot 3nNO(3), [Ln = Sm (1), Eu (2), Gd (3), Tb (4), H4L+Cl- = 1,3-bis(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl) imidazolium chloride]. Complexes 1-4 were characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Compounds 1, 2 and 4 display the luminescence of the trivalent lanthanide ions, due to the 4f(n)-4f(n) transitions. In addition, the luminescence lifetime of 2 has been thoroughly investigated.
