Carbon-rich organometallics: Application to molecular electronics

Munetaka Akita et al.

Summary: This review discusses recent advances in the study of single molecule conductance behavior of MMM junctions based on carbon-rich organometallics. Energy alignment between the wire part and the electrodes has significantly improved the conductance of MMM junctions, achieving long range carrier transport.

Tunable Symmetry-Breaking-Induced Dual Functions in Stable and Photoswitched Single-Molecule Junctions

Na Xin et al.

Summary: This study achieved gate-controlled rectifying function and high-performance field effect in a single-molecule photoswitch. By tuning the molecular orbitals separately under gate electric fields, the symmetric orbital shifting was realized, enhancing molecular symmetry breaking and improving field-effect performance. The gate-controlled symmetry-breaking effect can be switched on/off by isomerizing the DAE unit, providing a new scheme for building high-performance multifunctional molecular nanocircuits.

Molecular Structure-(Thermo)electric Property Relationships in Single-Molecule Junctions and Comparisons with Single- and Multiple-Parameter Models

Masnun Naher et al.

Summary: The conductance of a series of 12 conjugated molecular wires, including 6 with ruthenium or platinum center, has been determined. The transmission through these wires is mainly through tunneling at the tail of the HOMO resonance near the middle of the HOMO-LUMO gap. The trends in molecular conductance across the series cannot be explained solely by single-parameter models, but require consideration of the complete molecular junction.

Organometallic Molecular Wires with Thioacetylene Backbones, trans-{RS-(C≡C)n}2Ru(phosphine)4: High Conductance through Non-Aromatic Bridging Linkers

Atsushi Yashiro et al.

Summary: This work presents the design, synthesis, and single-molecule conductance of ethynyl- and butadiynyl-ruthenium molecular wires with thioether anchor groups. The study shows that the conductance of thioacetylene backbones is higher than that of arylethynylruthenium linkages with sulfur anchor groups. Moreover, the butadiynyl wire displays conductance comparable to covalently linked polyynyl wire of similar length. DFT study supports the highly conducting nature of thioacetylene molecular wires through HOMO orbitals.

Single-molecule junctions of multinuclear organometallic wires: long-range carrier transport brought about by metal-metal interaction

Yuya Tanaka et al.

Summary: This study reports multinuclear organometallic molecular wires with high conductance attributed to efficient energy alignment between the Fermi level of the metal electrodes and the HOMO levels of the molecular wires. Strong Ru-Ru interaction through bridging ligands raises the HOMO levels to access the Fermi level, leading to high conductance and small attenuation factors.
