Summary: This study introduces Lewis basic sites into a C2H6-selective MOF for efficient purification of C2H4 from ternary mixtures, demonstrating high C2H2 and C2H6 uptakes and selectivities. The amino-functionalized UiO-67-(NH2)(2) shows exceptional performance by providing suitable pore confinement and functional surfaces decorated with amino groups for stronger interactions with C2H2 and C2H6. Breakthrough experiments with C2H2/C2H6/C2H4 mixtures under dry and wet conditions confirm the remarkable C2H4 productivity of UiO-67-(NH2)(2).

Summary: Functionalization of metal-organic framework-808 (MOF-808) with 11 amino acids (AA) led to the synthesis of a series of MOF-808-AA structures. Among them, glycine- and DL-lysine-functionalized MOF-808 showed the highest CO2 uptake capacities under flue gas conditions. The presence of water was found to enhance CO2 capture performance, and the mechanism of CO2 capture was attributed to the formation of bicarbonate. Furthermore, the performance of MOF-808-Gly in simulated coal flue gas conditions was examined, demonstrating the possibility of capturing and releasing CO2 through vacuum swing adsorption.

Summary: Adsorption separation technology shows promise as an alternative to energy-intensive cryogenic distillation for natural gas separation. However, the performance of adsorbents for CH4/N-2 separation under humid conditions is challenging due to dampening by water vapor. This study demonstrates the improved performance and moisture stability of a series of engineered metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for CH4/N-2 separation.

Summary: In this study, a linker scissoring strategy was demonstrated to precisely shape metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) by using bidentate linkers as covering agents. The shape of the MOFs was controlled by the shape of the covering agents and the surface conformation of metals onto MOFs. This strategy provides a new guiding principle for synthesizing MOF nanocrystals with controlled shapes.

Summary: Industrial-scale thermal separation processes contribute to the increase in carbon dioxide emissions. Porous materials, like metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), can potentially reduce these emissions by achieving nonthermal chemical separations through the physical adsorption of target species. This study focuses on the synthesis of channel-based MOFs NU-2000 and NU-2001, which can separate industrially relevant xylene isomers under ambient conditions due to sub-angstrom size differences. By increasing the linker dimensionality from 2D to 3D, precise control of MOF pore size and aperture can be achieved, independent of linker orientation.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous crystalline materials made up of organic ligands and metal ions/clusters. Their unique advantages have attracted increasing attention in recent years, showing great potential in various applications. In alkaline operational environments, the stability of MOFs against bases is crucial for achieving high performance and long cycling life. Therefore, the development of base-stable MOFs has become a critical research direction in this field.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with novel metal clusters and coordinatively unsaturated sites are important for various applications. In this study, two isostructural MOFs with unprecendented binnuclear nickel clusters were developed. These MOFs showed selective adsorption of C2H2 and C2H6 over C2H4, making them rare examples of MOFs with open metal sites for ternary separation.

Summary: The desolvated metal-organic framework material MFM-160a shows excellent high-pressure uptake of CO2 and selective separation of C2 hydrocarbons from CH4, with experimental results consistent with theoretical predictions. Solid-state H-2 NMR spectroscopic studies reveal a low barrier and slow rotation rate of the phenyl group in the activated MOF, and the rotation rate increases with gas pressure due to weakening of an intramolecular hydrogen bond.
